Sphinx Meditation

SPHINX MEDITATION by Lynda Gail Alfano

The birds are calling me, telling me to follow them.
Circling.  Swooping.  Feathers light.  No heaviness.
Pounding, like paws on the ground.  Thumping.  Running with the breeze.
Heart thumping.  Pounding with need.  Need to…Get somewhere?
Where?

Follow the birds.  Follow the birds.  The birds are following the light.
The lights are floating in and out, like wisps of light and smoke.
Thumping again.  The cat is on the move again.
She is following the lights.  The lights pass close to the cat’s eyes.
Gently teasing.  Gently guiding.  Guiding me to peace.
Guiding me to ultimate knowledge…
the knowledge of the birds.

The birds are chirping again.  The sun is dawning. The sun feels warm on my face.
The thumping of the cat’s paws comes closer.  Closer.  Closer.  Closer.
I am the cat.  My heart pounds.  I force my breath through clenched jaws.
Until peace overcomes.  Light dawns in my eyes.
I am home.
