The Beacon

I am a child
Young, bold, sparkling, naïve
Gently guided
Tossed by the breeze
A shiny pebble
Skipping across a turquoise creek
I am growing
Hungry, eager, pursuing, fearless
Guided by passion
Rising winds furrowing at my back
A stone
Tossed into the cerulean sea
I am grown
Arrived, uncertain, worried, hiding
Unguided and adrift
Fear of losing is a tempest in my mind
A rock
Drowning in a raging ebony ocean
I am
Wiser, calm, relief, complete
A beacon
Like a child again
A freckled pebble
Listening to the stillness of the golden waters
